Key West '09, Parte Uno

I've been slacking on the blog lately, I know. We had such a great time in Key West - but I am SO MAD we didn't get enough pictures! There were so many gorgeous photo ops - and our stupid camera that we bought for underwater pics - BROKE while we were underwater! So here we have it, a day and a half of pictures. If I can get Lindi's, I'll post those too, thankfully her camera didn't break!

Friday Morning we took the Key West Express en route to Key West! We had to get up at 4:30 am in order to be in Fort Myers by 7:30 to take the 4 hr boat ride to the Key.

The boat was really awesome, and HUGE. It had 3 floors, with a bar, a food lounge area, tons of tables, and some seats that were kind of airplane-esque that you could watch movies in.

On the top floor it was all open air - which was really nice - just not for 4 hrs! Thankfully on the way there the boat wasn't so crowded so we could move around. On the way back it was packed and we ended up sitting up there for like 2 of the 4 hrs. Talk about windblown hair!

The only problem with the boat - it gets in just a few minutes after noon. And we couldn't check into the hotel till after 3! What to do? We just continued what we'd been doing on the boat... we hit up the bar!

And then found a bar that served food... and proceeded to spend the rest of the afternoon there.

Well, there and also accosting a few statues.

We all fell asleep ridiculously early (up at 4:30 am, remember?) BUT - it worked out well because we were up by 6 am the next day for the breakfast buffet and hit the POOL!

We enjoyed some poolside service, which was awesome!

And tested out the underwater camera, which just happened to work just fine while we were in the pool!

Around 12:30, the hotel had a shuttle take us down to the charter boat area of the key so that we could take the boat to go Snuba-ing! This free shuttle the hotel offered was THE BEST. It ran every hour, but if you wanted a special destination, all you had to do was ask. The whole hotel was pretty nice.

So to go Snuba-ing, we went on this little (about 24 ft) boat for a 45 min ride into the Gulf. The captain of the boat said he'd been running charters in Key West for 30 years!

Snuba is the best mix of snorkeling and scuba diving. They dress you up in snorkel mask, weight belt and oxygen face thing. The oxygen tanks are attached to a raft that floats on top of the water, and we're attached to a 20 ft hose that goes to the tanks.

I LOVE this picture!

This one, not so much. Ha!

Fun Flippers! Getting ready to dive in!

And then we got underwater! It was so indescribably amazing! I'm sure scuba diving is probably cooler... but until I learn to do that, this is definitely the next best thing. We saw so many awesome fish and coral. And I did get a few pictures!

And then our camera died. Stupid, stupid camera. They had a diving photographer that took a bunch of pictures of us, but they wanted $80 for the cd of 8 pictures. $80!!! We ordered ONE - and that was $25. But it's a good one of the both of us underwater.
